Objectives

The Conference of Provinces 2024 will provide a platform for academic researchers, think tanks, civil society organizations and departments to present innovative findings on climate change, adaptation strategies, and climate action. It aims to foster collaboration between researchers, policymakers, and government bodies, facilitating dialogue on how research can shape national climate policies. The event will highlight research contributions to policy development, particularly regarding the National Adaptation Plan and State Action Plans on Climate Change (SAPCC). Additionally, it will explore cutting-edge research for resilient climate adaptation pathways and innovative approaches to transforming climate finance, ensuring effective support for SAPCC initiatives. The conclave will amplify these discussions, placing research at the heart of climate policy formulation.

Purpose

To ensure effective collaboration between researchers and policymakers, continuous dialogue and experience sharing are essential in adaptation policy assessments. Government officials place the highest value on evidence-based planning when research outcomes are not only understood but also successfully implemented. This often requires that policies and plans be realistically scoped and scaled to align with available budgets, ensuring their feasibility and practical application.

Key Guiding Questions for Policy Research on Climate Action

1

What are the most effective policy measures for impacting climate change in a state or country, and how can climate policies be designed to ensure equitable outcomes for vulnerable and marginalized communities?

2

What are the economic impacts of transitioning to a low-carbon economy, and how can policies mitigate potential negative effects on economic stability and job creation?

3

What role do financial incentives and disincentives play in promoting business adoption of sustainable practices? Additionally, how can public awareness and engagement be enhanced to support the implementation of climate action policies?

4

How can collaborative, innovative, and localized solutions be leveraged to enhance the effectiveness of climate action, ensuring that interventions are tailored to local contexts and engage communities in sustainable practices?
